At a certain
point you say
to the woods, to the sea,
to the mountains,
the world,
Now I am ready.
Now I will stop and be wholly attentive.
You empty yourself and wait,
listening...

The Janet Erksine Stuart
Award
This award was introduced in 2004 and supports up
to five recipients each year in their pursuit of professional excellence.
Successful applicants receive a grant that will allow them time away from their
usual responsibilities to enhance their skills.
Recipients: Deirdre Broome; Tanya Price;
Liz Woods,
Colleen Berry
The Focus
The objective of the awards is to nourish
and enrich Sacred Heart educators. This creates a wide scope for staff to
consider how they could: improve their skills, bring new ideas to the college,
share with others in the Sacred Heart network, evaluate current practices for
improvement, or look and learn outside Baradene College.
Commitment required:
Within one month of completing an award, each
recipient is asked to provide a report to the directors of Baradene College.
Recipients will be required to continue working at Baradene College for one year
after receiving an award.
2007 Recipients:
Philomena
Pinto, Counsellor, Baradene College.
The Janet Erskine Stuart Award give me the opportunity to revisit my roots in
India. I will be on retreat at Sophia College, Mumbai, attend a Yoga Course and
exchange thoughts with the Counsellor at the College. In Pune I will observe the
classes at St Clare's. This is a dream come true! A big thank you to Baradene
Company Ltd for letting this happen.

Tanya
and Liz in Nepal
The Janet Erskine Stuart Award provided us
with a unique opportunity to take time out from our busy schedules to experience
new cultures and new activities, and gave us time to reflect on our professional
and private lives. We chose Nepal as our destination with a short time in
Thailand to rejuvenate ourselves at the end of the trip.
Our primary aim was to make a connection with an organisation involved in
volunteer work with a view to eventually taking a group from Baradene to make a
contribution to Nepal.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the founder of
InfoNepal-Narish Asim. He took us sightseeing and then to meet the children at
the Happy Home Orphanage. We had collected clothing and sports equipment which
wer were able to present to them.
We are eternally grateful to Baradene Company Ltd
for giving us this opportunity and feel that we were able to make the most of
our time away. We look forward to making our presentation and fundraiser for an
orphanage in Nepal, early next year. We hope our trip will be of benefit to
Baradene and have come back feeling refreshed for teaching in the New Year.
Namaste and dhanyabad. (Goodbye and Thank You).
