At a certain
point you say
to the woods, to the sea,
to the mountains,
the world,
Now I am ready.
Now I will stop and be wholly attentive.
You empty yourself and wait,
listening...

Golden Jubilee - Sr Margaret Toohey, RSCJ
Sunday, August 15th, 2004
Sr
Margaret reflects:
Although Fr Laurie has only recently come back to reside at the Monastery
next door, I discovered that his association with us goes back to Kincoppal
in the 70s and he was indeed known to quite a few RSCJ present – so his
celebration of the Eucharist had a very homely touch and some unexpected
moments, which brought our gathering together in a very meaningful way. He
recalled that our opening hymn, ”Create a new heart, Holy Lord”, was written
and composed for the M.S.C.’s own celebration of their centenary in the 80s,
which somehow called forth an extra lively musical involvement of all
present.
After
my renovation of Vows, he asked each one to stretch out their arm in a
gesture of blessing and to repeat his words of blessing over me, and then
asked me in turn to bless everyone present. It was a powerful moment. Again,
at the end we processed out singing the Magnificat to, Margaret
Lentaigne’s lively accompaniment, to the dining room, where chairs were
uniformly arranged in small groups around the central decorated tables.
Nancy
and Viviana, our Chilean cook, and Anna then proceeded to preside over a
beautifully prepared finger food luncheon, hot and cold, which everyone
seemed to enjoy, including some of my friends from St Vincent’s & RPA and
alumnae.
I would
like to acknowledge my deep gratitude to each one present, and to all the
RSCJ communities who gave or sent me generous gifts and words, which I will
treasure.
