Pauline Verschaffelt, RSCJ
03.11.1914 - 12.10.07 Born in Wellington, Pauline lived and worked there, as well as at Baradene and Loreto Hall. In Australia she was at Burke Road, Rose Bay, Sancta Sophia and Kerever Park, and has been remembered with affection, appreciation and gratitude at all these places.
In 1974 Pauline followed a course in Religious Studies at
Barat College in Chicago. In 1989 she spent time o
verseas in Italy
(mainly Florence), the Holy Land, England and Scotland.
Pauline's love of the beautiful things in life - art,
music and literature - was evident in all that she did.
Pauline moved into a Nursing Home after she broke her hip last year. She was very unhappy there. By a miracle she was able to move to the OLSH sisters Nursing Home two doors away and was able in those lovely surroundings and with the best of care to walk again, with the help of a walker. The desire to return to Karlaminda never left her, although she finally accepted that this was impossible and was more at peace.
A few months ago Pauline succumbed to the very
bad 'flu that hit Sydney and although at one stage she seemed to rally and
was in good form for the interstate and overseas religious who visited at
the time of the Chapter, her condition deteriorated and it became obvious
that she was near her end. Pauline died very peacefully shortly after 2am
on October 12th,
